Thanks!Įdit 2 Looks like I will be going with FTP as it seems to handle the stop and start well, thanks for the suggestions all. With that being said if attempting to stop and resume the copying of a 1TB file is bad news for data integrity I will probably just go with overnight copying.Įdit to the IT managers out there cringing about work data going offsite in rouge employee backups, I am responsible for the actual work sneakernet backup and have run this past the bosses. My fallback options are to either do it overnight or decrypt the data before copying it but ideally I would avoid either of those.

If I kill robocopy and start it again with /Z it starts from 0%Īre there any programs that can stop and start transfers like I want to? Would be preferable if they can take command line parameters as I have a powershell script for the offsite drive sync. If I use Robocopy /Z and leave it running I can resume the transfer but the problem is I cannot safely remove the drive as robocopy keeps a lock on the files. I would use a server or desktop for the syncing but it must be run on the laptop as I also sync my laptop & Work data backups to a bitlocker partition on the drive. I am trying to copy a 1tb Veracrypt volume to offsite a backup, the problem is that I will often need to undock my laptop for meetings or offsite dramas e.t.c. Without regular maintenance schedule, this problem will are more acute until your computer crashes.
